Situation Leeds supports visual arts across the city, creating opportunities for artists to connect, share work, and collaborate.
The monthly Situation Leeds Network provides a space for discussion, skill-sharing, and feedback, welcoming all stages of practice and any medium.
Alongside this, Situation Leeds Festival develops public-facing projects and events, building on a 20-year legacy of artist-led activity in the city.
Together, the network and festival help strengthen the city’s creative community, increase the visibility of visual arts, and provide platforms for experimentation, collaboration, and engagement.
Situation Leeds is supported by Hyde Park Book Club and Yorkshire & Humber Visual Arts Network (YVAN).Presentation and discussion Guidelines
You are invited to introduce yourself and talk about your art practice in a ten minute presentation at our monthly meetings at Hyde Park Book Club. Presentation time is limited in order to be fair to all who are presenting.
The presentations are an opportunity to tell people about you and your project or practice, to make new connections, or to talk about an idea and get feedback in a supportive collaborative group. This is a fantastic opportunity to benefit from the skills, knowledge and contacts of the people who attend.
The presentation can be formal or informal to suit you. There will be a laptop and projector available. If you would like to use the projector then please bring your presentation on a memory stick or drop your presentation into the drop box here before the meeting.
It is also possible to present using objects, eg: bringing in something you have made to show the group. This could be painting, sculpture, photographs, books, textiles, ceramics, whatever your medium is. Will your object fit on a tabletop? Space is limited so if the object is large it might be better to bring images instead.
Or you are welcome to talk and have a conversation with the network attendees without visual aids.
Please follow the guidelines below. Situation Leeds is an inclusive space.
- Be kind: constructive comments and questions are encouraged. This needs to be a safe space for people to share.
- Listen and please don’t interrupt others.
- There’s no place for hate at Situation Leeds. We use the Social Art Network Safer Spaces Agreement, so please support our principles of inclusion. Everyone is welcome if they adhere to these guidelines.
We often share images of the talks on social media. Please let us know if you do not wish to be photographed.
